The 14th Annual Sigma Youth Symposium - A Roaring Success

The Zeta Tau Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. joined hundreds of sister chapters across the nation in support of Sigma Gamma Rho's signature programs: Project Reassurance and the H3 Initiative. This year marked the sisterhood's 14th Annual Sigma Youth Symposium (SYS). Alumnae chapters across the nation hosted SYS in their respective cities, and ZTS was no exception.

Registration
Held on the campus of Prince George's Community College in Largo, Maryland, the ZTS chapter hosted a fun-filled and eventful SYS. Following the chapter's holistic approach of "It Takes a Village...",  ZTS included programming for students and their parents, throughout the day.

Student programming included:
    Financial Empowerment/Wee Savers
  • Financial Empowerment:  this Wee Savers (one of Sigma Gamma Rho's signature programs) workshop introduced many to basic budgeting and other financial management principles with the help of the repreentatives from TD Bank
  • What Not/To Wear: A discussion on appropriate and inappropriate conduct, both on and off the Internet

Parent programming included:
  • 'Life After': Entrepreneurship opportunities as parents deal with a challenging economy and career changes
  • "Life After"
  • Food Preparation: A workshop which empowered parents with nutritional tools for the home

Joint Programming included:
  • "College Prep!": a workshop examining post-high-school education and training, including financial awareness
  • Coping Skills: licensed, experienced social workers worked with families to identify and manage life's stresses, as well as recognize the warning signs of distress
